In Defence of Abrahamic Religions
I have seen many commenta here today who claim that Christianity (or Abrahamic Religions in generell) forced upon people their belives/values/etc. With the “counterclaim” that “pagan traditions” didn’t do this.
So I want to give you two famous examples of pagan traditions/religions forcing their believes upon people. Mind you with the help of the state, as with Christianity.¹
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asebeia “Asebeia (Ancient Greek: ἀσέβεια) was a criminal charge in ancient Greece for the “desecration and mockery of divine objects”, for “irreverence towards the state gods” and disrespect towards parents and dead ancestors.[1] In English, the word is typically translated as ‘impiety’ or ‘ungodliness’.[2] Most evidence for it comes from ancient Athens.”
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decian_persecution “The Decian persecution of Christians occurred in 250 AD under the Roman Emperor Decius. He had issued an edict ordering everyone in the Empire to perform a sacrifice to the Roman gods and the well-being of the emperor. The sacrifices had to be performed in the presence of a Roman magistrate, and be confirmed by a signed and witnessed certificate from the magistrate. Although the text of the edict has been lost, many examples of the certificates have survived.”
For anyone who wants to pick up a fight, I encourage you to do so. I am quite versed in Latin And ancient greek and can quote you pagan traditions from all the medditeranian and beyond as described by ancient historians. Your “claims” of Christianity being so “bad” will be reviesed within minutes, if I show you your glorious pagan traditions which were much more restrictive in most cases than Christianity. And even most examples of Christianity being shit usually it is the state who “enforces” Christianity where even an Idiot with baisic reading skills can determine that the state is not in any sense acting christian in those cases.
¹ On a side note here for example: The Catholic Church did not execute a single person, for the Inquisition never had that right. It only stated that person x is a “heretic” and handed them over to the worldly authorities who did execute them. Furthermore giving my point that the state is the problem not Religion in itself more Ground. The state uses Religion for its gains. Whoever wants it, I can give you a 2000 year detailed church history showing you, how baisically everything “bad” Christianity has ever done, is not to ve atributed to the Religion itself, but the state who abuses it.
