Stubborn officer apparently doesn’t care about me contracting rabies.

Hi everyone, I (20F), and I need to vent about a frustrating experience I had with an officer regarding a dog bite. This incident happened about a week ago, and I feel like it was handled so poorly that I don’t even know what to do next.

Here’s the situation: My dog and I were attacked by an off-leash dog belonging to a family that has multiple dogs. When the officer came to follow up, I explained that I wasn’t sure which dog bit me because there was barely any light at the time it happened. Despite that, the officer only let me look at the dog they thought fit the description for about 10 seconds before deciding that was good enough. I tried to explain that it wasn’t enough time and that it was hard to tell under the conditions, but she kept interrupting me and dismissing my concerns.

It honestly felt like she was being rigid and half-assing the investigation, which just made everything more complicated. I was hoping for a proper process to identify the right dog, but instead, it felt rushed and unfair. Now I’m left feeling frustrated, unheard, and unsure about what to do next. How can I possibly figure out which dog bit me if they have another dog that fits the description and if they have multiple dogs?

Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Any advice on how I can advocate for myself and get this resolved properly? I just want to make sure everything is handled the way it should be. She kept interrupting me, too, there was no reason for her to be shouting at me about how she doesn’t want to harass these people.

Thanks for reading—I really appreciate any input.
