A lot of people here seem to have forgotten about the Covid lockdowns
Lately it seems like lot of the “both sides” libertarians and ancaps, and leftists posing as libertarians, have conveniently overlooked the greatest restriction of freedom and transfer of wealth in our lifetimes. I just wanted to make a post to remind people what actually happened and how bad things got.
Life under the Trump administration wasn’t much changed compared with what I’d experienced previously under any other presidential administration. Nothing particularly good or bad. Some promises like tax cuts were were kept but others like reduced govt spending were not. Everything was more or less like it had been, that is until the COVID shutdowns. These policies, driven by Democrats and most strictly enforced in Democrat-led cities and states, changed everything.
Suddenly travel was being restricted and gatherings were being shutdown. Then they began issuing stay-at-home orders and closing businesses that were considered “non-essential”, a term of course they defined. Many small businesses suffered and were destroyed, while giant multi-billion dollar corporation thrived. Mask mandates, isolation orders, and quarantines soon followed, imposed on everyone, even for those who were perfectly healthy or engaging in solo activities. In some cities, curfews were introduced, and mandatory testing for travel became the norm.
Finally, under the Biden administration, millions of Americans faced mandates that coerced them into accepting injections of unwanted chemicals in their bodies that had ZERO long term testing. Protesting these orders was off-limits, meanwhile leftwing organizations like BLM were encouraged to riot in the streets. Any criticism of these policies led to censorship on social media at the behest of the Biden administration and accusations of being “anti-science.”
This period likely marked one of the largest wealth transfers in history, eroding the value of our currency, wages, and savings. I’m sure a lot of people will say in bad faith arguments that a lot of this happened during Trump’s watch, which is of course a logical fallacy. A president isn’t responsible for everything that happens during his time in office. What is important is looking at the people who actually supported such tyranny. The democrats showed exactly who they were during the covid shutdowns, and there is no reason to think they won’t do the same thing or worse if the opportunity presents itself again.
I do not think Trump is the ideal choice, there are many people I’d rather see as president, and I do not think he is above criticism. But I do believe he is the better option in this election. Vote for whoever you want or don’t vote at all. I really don’t care. It’s your choice. I for one have no intention of ever going back to anything even remotely like what we experienced during those shutdowns and voted accordingly.
