If I was a greedy businessman, I’d want my customers to have as much money as possible

If I was a greedy businessman, I would want as many rich people in my economy as possible. People with tons of disposable income. People that can afford to splurge and pay higher prices

I would also want people to have the ability to continue making money, so they can be customers for life. Don’t just buy one of my cars this year. Buy one EVERY year! Get one for your wife, your mother, your kids. This is how I get rich. By everyone having as much money as possible. This is how I make money

Customers that are stressed over money won’t spend as much at my store. They won’t hire my services. They skimp where they can. I want happy carefree customers. This is how I make money

The argument that the only way to make money is by exploiting the poor, and the only reason anyone has anything is because they took it from someone who doesn’t? It’s completely braindead. Life is not a zero sum game. Wealth is created by people who create things. The more that’s created the more that everyone has. And the more we create, the richer we are, and the richer we all are, the more money and wealth we can continue to create. This is why capitalism pulls people out of poverty like never seen anywhere else

Under capitalism, a milkman could work from 5am-10am and afford a house and 5 kids and nice vacations. Imagine a country so rich that people casually had fresh food delivered to their door every morning. In poor counties people stand in lines waiting for food instead. Of course companies want you to be rich! They want to sell you all these great services. The milkman no longer exists. Who could afford it?

So no, the rich don’t want to keep you poor. They have nothing to gain, but they would lose something very important to them: a customer
