Nazi analogies are wonderful

Take gun rights for example. “If the state takes your guns they will do bad things to you” doesn’t hit the same as “If the state takes your guns they will do another holocaust”.

Compulsory schooling too. “If kids are forced into schools they may be indoctrinated” isn’t as powerful as “Hitler also used compulsory schools to brainwash kids”.

Or statism in general. If someone says “The state violating your property rights is a necessary evil needed to live in a civilized society”, they’re basically also saying “Gassing the jews is a necessary evil needed to live in a civilized society”.

Why does this work? It’s simple really. Nearly everyone agrees the nazis were horrible and for the past 80 years, people developed a very emotional connection that holocaust = very bad. If you point out that their statist views can be used to justify a holocaust, as a result of emotions they are more likely to question the statist “axiom” they believed their whole life. For most of the people i talked with irl about statism, this is what convinced them.

Sure, it may be godwin’s law, but it works.
