Pre employment polygraphs

Has anyone else found it strange that, despite the additional scrutiny placed on law enforcement hiring and training practices since 2020, reform advocacy groups never seem to key in on polygraphs and their potential harm from creating sort of a “lazy” background process that relies heavily on a strict pass/fail polygraphs exams. This is often times in contrast to a true thorough, personalized background investigation from an investigator that goes around and talks to an applicant’s neighbors and 3rd grade teacher etc.

I know many folks may think of any additional layers like a “lie detector” are a good thing, but the reality is that lie detection is a fallacy and these tools only serve as a deterrent for liars who think they’ll be caught at best. No other developed country in the world uses polygraphs by the way. What do you all think?
