Mark Zuckerberg Was Right To Fire Facebook’s Rogue Fact-Checkers
A new era is dawning at Meta. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday that third-party fact-checking organizations would no longer have the power to suppress disfavored speech on Facebook—a major, positive step toward restoring free expression and robust debate on the platform. In his video announcing the changes, Zuckerberg conceded that moderators working at his social media properties—Facebook and Instagram—felt pressured after Donald Trump’s 2016 win to address mainstream media concerns about the spread of alleged misinformation online. Should Defamation Lawsuits Exist?
Jeffrey Miron and Jacob Winter Last month, ABC News agreed to pay $15 million to Donald Trump’s future presidential library to settle a defamation suit resulting from anchor George Stephanopoulos’ statements on March 10, 2024. Defamation occurs when a person communicates false statements about another person that damage their reputation. Since the founding of the country, defamation has been a tort—a matter for which one person can sue another. Additionally, defamation is a crime punishable by fines and/or […]
The state is a corporation
It doesnt care about people. It’s only desire is to grow in size and influence. Corporations are just as bad as the state only smaller. They don’t care if they poison people and destroy communities. The only thing that matters to them is growth at ANY expense monetary or human life. The boots you lick today will be on your neck tomorrow. Elon is not your friend, grow up and think for yourself. submitted by /u/CakeOnSight [link] [comments]

A slice: Look out for “hydroclimate whiplash” coming to a media website near you. That’s the term the climate left is suddenly using to explain the Los Angeles wildfires, or to put it more baldly, to change the subject from the failure of the state and local government […]
How do yall feel about litigation
I’ve read some papers on the idea but curious to see your opinions on how litigation benefits a free market economy- for example if someone is hurt by a product intentionally mislabeled. If one can sue to ensure proper warnings it would set a legal precedent effectively creating legal regulations. There’s risks of exploiting litigation in one hand and of irresponsible actors not being held responsible for damages on the other. I’m curious your thoughts submitted by /u/wdaloz […]

Tweet Iain Murray debunks three arguments for tariffs. Two slices: Moreover, tariffs are at least as much a threat to manufacturing as they are an opportunity. Much that America imports is not finished goods, but inputs, i.e. raw materials and parts, that domestic manufacturing needs to operate efficiently. With tariffs, fewer of these inputs will be imported, or the price of finished goods will go up. With fewer imports, American manufacturing jobs will suffer. With higher prices, American […]
