On Wednesday, I briefly wrote about Judge Boasberg’s proposed criminal prosecution briefly. Here, I would like to highlight several of the significant separation of powers problems, many of which were raised in DOJ’s latest mandamus petition to the D.C. Circuit. Specifically, this special prosecutor would truly be untethered, and would be burdened by none of the modest restrictions that Alexia Morrison confronted. Let’s recap how the Ethics in Government Act (EIGA) operated. First, the Attorney General had to […]
Humanity has constructed a doomsday Deadman switch that threatens civilization. Climate destruction will make it increasingly difficult to avoid the looming global nuclear catastrophe we’ve created. Here’s how our future might unravel: Late 2020s: Climate Red Alert and Infrastructure Strain By the late 2020s, Earth’s climate is in unprecedented turmoil. Global average temperatures are consistently 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels. Each year brings record-breaking heatwaves, “freak” floods, and droughts that batter infrastructure. Coastal cities flood more frequently, roads buckle […]
On April 7, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously held that if the Trump administration seeks to deport someone under President Donald Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA), then that deportee must first be afforded due process, including “notice and an opportunity to challenge their removal.” Furthermore, according to the Court’s order, “the notice must be afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief in the […]
On a recent appearance on the Young & Profiting podcast, Peter Schiff joins host Hala Taha to explain why today’s economic challenges—from rising income inequality to persistent inflation—trace back to misguided monetary policy and unsustainable government spending. Peter lays out his case against the conventional wisdom of redistribution, critiques the current tax system, and calls for a return to sound money. Peter opens by challenging the narrative that capitalism produces rampant inequality. Instead, he argues, it’s Federal Reserve policy that fuels […]
From last week’s decision by Judge Beth Bloom (S.D. Fla.) in Miracle Surrogacy, LLC v. Monello-Fuentes: Defendants … contacted Miracle Surrogacy and Miracle Surrogacy of Mexico to assist in facilitating a pregnancy through surrogacy. The couple intended to use the sperm of Monello, the egg of an anonymous egg donor, “and a surrogate to carry the embryo to term.” Although Plaintiffs facilitate the genetic collection, conception, and surrogacy, Plaintiffs contend that they do not provide medical services and […]
What if the new Cold War with China turns hot? Just asking questions. China’s rise, decline, or potential for conflict is often clouded by propaganda and oversimplification. This episode of Just Asking Questions examines China’s real economic, military, and geopolitical trajectory, focusing on Taiwan tensions, trade wars, and demographic challenges. Joining us is Michael Beckley, a Tufts University political science professor and co-author of Danger Zone: The Coming Conflict with China. He is also a senior fellow at […]
On Palm Sunday (April 13), Israeli bombs destroyed the surgery and intensive care sections of the “last fully functional hospital in Gaza City,” according to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation. The hospital was run by the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, part of the Anglican Church. The bombs also struck surrounding buildings, including St. Philip’s Church. The Diocese said it was “appalled” at the bombing of the hospital and church “on the morning of Palm Sunday and […]
